Rare earth elements (REEs) are at the core of today’s most valuable industries. From electric motors and automotive components to wind turbines, medical devices, e-bikes, hard disk drives, and electronics, these materials are indispensable for the manufacturing sector and the technologies that drive our economy.
Over 90% of REEs are processed in China, and more than 90% of industrial magnets are produced there. The demand for REE is set to grow sharply in the coming decade, increasing pressure on already concentrated supply chains. But here’s the opportunity: the biggest deposit of rare earths is not underground — it is sitting right in your scrapyard!
Recycling Rare Earths from End-of-Life Vehicles
Permanent magnets that contain rare earth elements like neodymium and dysprosium are found in a wide range of products, including EV motors and many automotive components.
Currently, less than 1% of rare earth magnets are recycled globally. According to Adamas Intelligence, the U.S. alone will have over 43,000 metric tonnes of end-of-life permanent magnets by 2035 — materials that could be going to waste if not recovered.
This is where Cyclic Materials steps in, offering automotive recyclers an unprecedented opportunity to turn these end-of-life components into greater value.
Unlocking New Revenue Streams for Auto Recyclers
Cyclic Materials provides an efficient, scalable solution to recover rare earth magnets from end-of-life products.
For auto recyclers, that means a new source of revenue.
Here is how partnering with Cyclic Materials will benefit
you as an automotive recycler:
- Competitive prices for cores, no matter the condition
- Upfront payment, no waiting for checks to clear
- No shipping or handling costs, we cover thelogistics
Make the most out of your cores
Cyclic Materials already works with a broad network of recyclers to recover valuable rare earth magnets.
Here is the simple process:
- End-of-life cores arrive atCyclic’sfacility.
Cyclic buys permanent-magnet containing automotive components (such as EV motors and alternators) from auto recyclers.
- Magnets are separated.
At Cyclic’s facility in Arizona, magnets are separated from other metals like copper, aluminum, and steel.
- Recovery of Mixed Rare Earth Oxides (rMREOs).
The magnets are processed into rMREOs
- Reintroduced into the supply chain.
The recycled MREOs are sold back into the market, where they can be reintroduced into the magnet manufacturing supply chain.
Profitable Long-Term Supply
After the battery recycling boom, the next wave of growth in the recycling industry will come from magnet recycling. Many automakers and manufacturers are rushing to secure a more reliable supply of rare earths, and recycling magnets provides a more domestic and resilient source of these critical materials.
Why Recyclers Are Key to the Future of Rare Earths
Mining rare earths is costly and time-consuming, with environmental and geopolitical risks. Meanwhile, the largest urban mine is already in your yards, where high-value magnets are ready to be recycled.
By partnering with Cyclic Materials, auto recyclers can unlock more value from end-of-life vehicles and automotive components, including:
- Drive units and Transmissions
- Alternators and Starters
- Electric AC Compressors
- Electric Power Steering
- Wiring Harnesses
